This handsome, one-of-a-kind wooden jar looks like it stepped right out of a craftsman's workshop in the 1950s. Every inch of it is hand-carved with vines, blossoms, and grape clusters that catch the light beautifully. The lid features a bold floral rosette and turned knob - the kind of old-world detailing that just doesn't come off a factory line anymore. Heavy, solid, and full of character, this jar feels right at home in any rustic kitchen, library, or cabin shelf.
Description:
Large cylindrical hand-carved jar with matching lid. Likely Indian or Indonesian origin, mid-century era. The body features a deep floral and grapevine relief design; the lid echoes the carving with a rosette motif. Inside is smooth and unfinished wood. There's an indistinct hand-etched maker's mark on the bottom.
Material: Hand-carved solid hardwood (likely rosewood or teak)
Dimensions: Approx. 12" tall x 8.5" diameter
Weight: 6.5 lbs
Country of Origin: India or Indonesia (region of origin estimated)
Date of Manufacture: Circa 1950s-1970s
Condition Statement:
Good vintage condition with expected age wear. Notable details include a visible split in the lid, a small rim chip, and minor scuffing along the base - all stable and secure. Displays beautifully and lid still fits properly.
Fun Fact:
These heavy carved jars were often sold as tea or grain canisters in Indian export markets after WWII - prized for their durability and decorative flair!
Shipping & Handling:
Ships safely & securely from rural Colorado with careful packing and insurance included. Ground Advantage is standard, or Priority Mail options available depending on location and combined order size.
